About Carlos Motta
Carlos Motta personally executes every step of his creations, from the initial design to the finishing details. The work he produces is characterized by a stark simplicity and ergonomic sophistication. The designer is passionate about Brazil, especially the country's natural wealth. The designer is involved with environmental conservation, making use of raw materials from renewable sources and chooses sustainable options with ecologically certified or reclaimed wood. The result is strong, durable furniture that is elegantly conceived and built.
Motta graduated with a degree in architecture in São Paulo, 1976. He worked as a designer and cabinetmaker in Santa Cruz, California, while attending classes in building techniques at Cabrillo College. Later, Motta studied and did research Finland on molded and rolled wood. Carlos has participated in numerous exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, including Brazil Faz Design, in Milan, Italy; International Biennial of Design, in Saint Etienne, France; and Object Brazil - 500 Years of Design, at Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil. He has been awarded many important prizes, most notably the Hors Concours Award at the IX Prêmio do Museu da Casa Brasileira; First Place, Aluizio Magalhães Prize, at the V Competition of Industrial Design; and First Place, Best Furniture Design, at II Prêmio do Museu da Casa Brasileira. Motta is a professor of Planning at FAAP University in São Paulo.

Description
A a relatively large tree that can reach up to 40 meters in height (131 feet) and 80 centimeters in diameter (31 inches). However if rooted in sandy or stony soils it tends to become underdeveloped.
Characteristics
A considerably heavy wood, with an olive-yellow heartwood, becoming pale-brown when exposed to the air. The sapwood has a light beige color. The grain is irregular and/or wavy with a shiny and smooth surface to the touch. The smell is quite pleasant and a spicy taste however, once it starts drying out the smell and taste are imperceptible.

An Evergreen tree, height varies from 15 to 25m (49 to 82 feet) and 50 to 100cm (20 to 40 inches) DBH (Diameter at Breast Height). Rarely it can reach up to 50m (164 feet) high and 390cm (154 inches) DBH, in adulthood and under the correct conditions.
Characteristics
Heavy wood, heartwood ranging from pink-yellow to a slightly burnt yellowish color. Typically a straight or interlocked grain witn a fine texture to the touch. Surface lacks any sort of luster and is smooth the touch. Taste and odor are slightly bitter.
