![]() Lia Siqueira’s Livre desk (2005) is robustly constructed from mathematical cut outs of wood. The highly functional piece features sliding trays in the underside as interactive elements to extend the size, as well as drawers, a pullout board and a compartment on the surface for electrical wiring. Round arches comprising the desk’s legs recall Oscar Niemeyer’s sensual curves and serve as a counterpoint to the piece’s straight lines. The Livre desk is part of the Etel collection. From her position with the firm Weilding, Kettner & Dr. Wenrer in Germany, Brazilian-born Siqueira moved on to pursue her design career in Rio de Janeiro. She has won awards from Brazil’s Institute of Architects and MOVESP and currently heads the architectural firm Azul Arquitetura & Design. Space for Thought is the story behind a great piece or designer at ESPASSO, with the purpose of sharing Brazil's rich cultural heritage and the work of today's emerging talents. We hope you enjoy it.
